Scouting RAGBRAI... pre-ride overnight in the start town of Orange City

The powers that be at RAGBRAI like to "scout" the pass through and overnight towns prior to the July ride. They do this in June and take a small team of cyclists along the exact route we'll be riding. They check out all facilities like campgrounds, shower and restroom facilities, local eateries and more, trying to ensure that riders have a seamless, fun experience in July. Each town creates their own unique, catchy RAGBRAI themed logo for the event, which I'll include in these scouting posts. The towns need to plan for 10,000 riders (contrary to one ill-informed clown recently telling me that RAGBRAI is now "up to 15,000 riders"... ONLY 8,500 week long wristbands were awarded on May 1st, and 1,500 day rider wristbands... so riders can't exceed 10,000). The Iowa Gallivant, covering all things Iowa, has posted about the scouting team's stop in Orange City, the first pre-ride overnight camping town on July 22nd. It looks like we're going to have a fun time! I'll pass along their blurbs on the other 6 overnight towns in future posts.

Orange City has a great history museum with an impressive collection of Native American artifacts, impressive Dutch mills, bakeries, and meat markets courtesy of the original 1800s settlers, and a well preserved street organ,  ;) Check out the article below:
